A couple weeks ago we told you about the history of Giving Tuesday and some of the great work our Crowdfunding partners have been doing to help campaign organizers raise more donations. Since 2012, this event has generated spectacular year over year growth in charitable giving. You can read more about this new holiday here.

As expected, Giving Tuesday broke records once again this year. There were 1.56 million donations across 98 countries made, resulting in a total of $168 million raised on November 29th, 2016. This represents a growth of 56% in the number of donations, 33% in the number of organizations receiving donations, and 44% in the total dollars raised.

Now, one week after the event, we see that Giving Tuesday had a halo effect this year, much like it did in 2015, promoting significantly elevated levels of giving throughout the week. On Tuesday November 29th, 2016, WePay processed $20.2 million. Throughout the week our Crowdfunding partners saw 139% more donation volume than the average week in 2016. This growth can be attributed, not to a larger average donation size, but to more individual donations and 34% more new campaigns kicked-off on Giving Tuesday. We saw the largest spike in donations on Giving Tuesday itself, our most involved partners seeing up to 1000% more donation volume.

We’d like to give a big round of applause to our Crowdfunding partners for providing great tools for fundraisers to drive awareness of many different causes. You can still head to Classy, Crowdrise, Fundrazr, GiveForward, GoFundMe, or YouCaring to get in the holiday spirit and participate in the season of giving.
