The Basketball Dribble is one of the oldest continuously running philanthropic events at the University Alabama Huntsville and the men of the Theta Pi Chapter of Alpha Tau Omega have always taken their philanthropy seriously. But on March 1, 2007, it got personal when their brother Paul “Fish” Salmon lost his battle with leukemia.
Since then, the Theta Pi chapter has dedicated all its philanthropy efforts to the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation. This non-profit organization is committed to improving the health of the North Alabama region through cancer research, patient initiatives, and education. The foundation helps provide funding for innovative cancer research, promote cancer education in the community, assist eligible patients with uncovered costs of treatments, and support the development of improved communication among healthcare providers.
To raise money for this worthy cause, the brothers will band together and dribble a basketball from the University of Northern Alabama Campus in Florence all the way back home to the University of Alabama campus in Huntsville. The dribble, which is a trek across much of northern Alabama, will start at 9pm and end at 3am the next day.
The Theta Pi brothers have 13 days left to meet their goal! For more information, watch the video and be sure to hit up the donate button below in honor of Paul “Fish” Salmon and the Russel Hill Cancer Foundation!
